The Gianna Effect

A situation in which two people develop feelings for the same person, often after one of them confides in the other. The result is that the person who was originally told about the crush and the crush end up developing mutual feelings, leaving the original admirer rejected.

Matt and Richie experianced The Gianna Effect when Matt ended up with Gianna after Richie told Matt that he had feeling for Gianna. 

1. Person 1 likes Person 2.

2. Person 1 tells Person 3 about their crush.

3. Person 2 does not reciprocate Person 1’s feelings.

4. Person 2 develops feelings for Person 3.

5. Person 3 develops feelings for Person 2.

6. Persons 2 and 3 begin dating.
